SSC/Freedom Disability is new to the Valley, but you wouldn't know that based on how quickly they jumped into this year's Harvest House III project. They conducted their own food drive to benefit Harvest House III from Monday, August 31st through Friday, September 25th.and was it a major success! Here is their story in their own words: We also offered a “Buy a Can” option to raise money for additional food purchases. Paper cans were sold at $5.00 each and counted as 5 food items. Tom Kowalski, our Facilities Manager, helped us get a huge communication board together for the food drive and helped us find a space in the building where 7 cubicles could be dedicated to the food drive; one for the collection booth and one for each team’s donations. Kathy Barrios and Tammy Cahill manned the collection booth on their lunch breaks everyday from 12:00PM – 1:00PM. Our 61 active employees were assigned to a team and each team had a designated Team Leader . At the end of each week, the team with the most donations won a certificate that entitled each team member privileges (listed below). The attached announcement was sent to all employees.
One raffle ticket was awarded for every 5 items donated by one employee and for each Paper Can sold. Our company’s goal was to collect a total of 1,000 items (wow did we blow that away!!!). Week 1 / Goal 250 items: Team Award = One extra dress down day Appreciation: Management provided all employees with donuts/bagels for meeting the week’s goal Week 2 / Goal 500 items: Team Award = Come in One Hour Late Appreciation: Management provided all employees with ice cream sandwiches/cones for meeting the week’s goal Week 3 / Goal 750 items: Team Award = Leave One Hour Early Appreciation: Management provided all employees with pizza for meeting the week’s goal Week 4 / Goal 1000 items Team Award = Entire week of dress down days Appreciation: Raffle Ticket drawing for an overnight stay at the Trumbull Marriott the evening of the SSC/Freedom Holiday party 12.19.09.
