Youth Leadership Conducts Mentoring
Training

The Youth Leadership Program is adding a new mentoring component
to the volunteer activities of its members. Valley United Way recently received
a grant from the Department of Higher Education to help implement the program.
The first step in the development of the program was to provide training for a
group of ten students currently participating in the program.
The students spent the weekend of February 19-21 at Camp Jewell
in Colebrook. The YMCA Camp has long been the site of the initial training
program for Youth Leadership, but they developed a special training component to
assist students in developing their skills as mentors. The students will have a
chance to put those skills to work at area grammar schools later this summer.
